Dr. Murray Sabrin, an economist and author, spoke at our last Essex County Tea Party meeting.
While most of us were getting aggravated with what goes on at the federal level, he said something else, to which I commented, "So that means we need to get involved on the local level?"
That has been my mantra - Get Involved in Local Politics!
That is where the real power of the people lies. That is the forum to change what happens in your community and your county. That's where a big bulk of your tax payer dollars go.
When you attend town hall meetings you let your elected officials know you are watching them and holding them accountable.
When you join County Committee you can be part of the selection board that chooses candidates!
As muncipalities and counties go, so then goes the rest of the state.
While I love filling up our meetings, I'd love to see concerned citizens going to town council meetings, holding their elected officials feet the fire and making them accountable for their decisions.
When you show up, they can't run!
